Anyone have some recommendations for newbie friendly Linux builds?

As background, I've got this old lump of a PC (actually the old Team Fear Q3 server - it's still chugging along after all these years of service!) and I now feel that it's past its useful life as a windoze PC (because it's not powerful enough to run games). Since there's no reason to use windows for anything other than gaming compatibility, I reckon I can have some fun tooling around with linux and maybe make this my surfing/email platform.

I am not a total Linux newbie, having played with old build of Redhat, but I'm keen to collect any advice from people that may know more than me.

All input welcome! :)

Hi BAZ i would recommend ubuntu or kubuntu

ubuntu is gnome based
kubuntu is kde based

both has a good installer good update facility, and tons of mail software, you could easily run this forum aswell without any trouble

best regards from denmark

Hi Paternus! :worthy:

I actually ended up installing ubuntu (I've been told it's properly pronounced "noobuntu" ;)) and really loved it. The speed and elegance of the OS is very, very impressive coming from Windows 2000.

Obviously, I can't quite ditch MS, as most games need XP or Vista - but as a general web, email and chat OS I'm converted!

Great to see you here, m8. Welcome back!
